The cuisine of the Mediterranean region has long been considered very healthy and balanced, can prevent disease and brings proven holiday feeling on German plates. Mediterranean food is also slimming. How this can work, shows the so-called Cretan diet.
The diet of Crete is no Diet as such, it is not removed so the primary goal. Instead, it reinforces the long term a conscious approach to healthy food through a sustainable food conversion. Studies have shown that especially the inhabitants of the Mediterranean island of Crete have a long life and hardly suffer from typical diseases of civilization. Nutrition experts recommend a diet with olive oil (preferably from Crete), bread, fresh vegetables and legumes, fish, fruit and little meat. It seasoned with herbs priority. A glass of red wine per day is also allowed.
Through these "ingredients" is the Cretan cuisine a healthy and balanced diet. But why these foods work so well? Fish for example, contains minerals and essential Omega-3 fatty acids. These protect against cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. Vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamins and also contain fiber, which support the metabolism of our body. Herbs contain substances, which is in part a reputed anti-cancer effect. And then the olive oil: its phytochemicals protect the heart and are protective against atherosclerosis. Also in red wine phytochemicals have been demonstrated.
This act all these health benefits and actually should Crete Diet to be understood as a long-term change in diet – this type of diet can keep you fit and lean and boost your immune system. Anyone who still wants to lose a few pounds short of the Cretan diet which should consider the following: take daily 2 liters of liquids (preferably water or herbal tea) per day and no more than 1000 kcal. As breakfast cereals are suitable for fruit or whole grain bread with cheese or cottage cheese. For lunch, it may for example be a light potato salad, fish with lime sauce, salad with tomatoes and cheese, or stuffed grape leaves, marinated feta cheese in the evening, perhaps, a salad with avocado and cheese sandwich with mango or Papapya. There are also snacks there in the Cretan diet: vegetable salad, fruit salad, fruit shakes – the Possibilities are endless.
